Unicorpus Health Foundation (UHF) is a Non-Profit company registered under Section 8 of Companies Act 2013). Unicorpus was established in 2015 in Hyderabad to provide affordable ethical, evidence based, compassionate and holistic health care. Unicorpus is a 80G and 12A approved Organization. A group of like minded and committed individuals both from medical and non-medical backgrounds have come together to begin the journey of Unicorpus.
Unicorpus is propelled by the vision of Dr. Ida Scudder the founder of Christian Medical College, Vellore. Demographic and community needs analysis prompted us to start with Unicorpus senior citizen polyclinic, a unique model for geriatric care. We have realized that, care of the ageing population in India is the need of the hour.
A group of four Doctors from CMC Vellore had the zest and a burning desire to give back to the society. While they were scattered professionally in different parts of the globe, in the year 2013, it so happened that their paths converged in Hyderabad. It was during that time; this team met 5 more professionals both Medical and Non-Medical from different spheres who also shared the same vision and formed a Core Group. This Core Group of 9 people held three workshops inviting people from all walks of life (Medical, Clergy, Lawyers, Home Makers, Government Employees, Business Men etc) and asked them one single question, i.e; "What is the kind of medical facility that people are looking forward to?" towards this direction, The core team of unicorpus formed an online group named, "let us all join hands", and continued these discussions. We also conducted action research through pilot demographic studies and free health camps.
From these interventions, we found that there is a need for Affordable Ethical, Evidence Based, Compassionate and Holistic Health Care. Based on these inputs, in the year 2015, "Unicorpus Health Foundation," (UHF) was registered as a Non-Profit Organization.
Group of students from Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, U.S.A, had visited and studied our project in Feb 2016 and helped us refine our operational model.
We subsequently started dental, physiotherapy, and various other clinics catering to all age groups.
Unicorpus is operating from two locations in Hyderabad. YMCA campus in Secunderabad and Word and Deed campus in sub urban Hyderabad. Unicorpus has 20 bedded community hospital and speciality clinics and over 40 visiting consultants, many of whom have volunteer their services.
